Bast the Cat Goddess

In Ancient Egypt, Cats were worshiped as Gods; they were everywhere.
This was due in part because spaying and neutering did not yet exist.

So they built temples to BAST and created Cat Mummies (kittens) as offerings to her.
Cats were helpful to reduce rodents attacking the grain supply.

Bast was worshiped as a Mother Goddess in the Nile Delta town of Bubastis.
