Practical Lures

For cities plagued by rampant crime, car theft, or armed robbery the idea of Practical Lures may be a solution. We have all heard of “smash and grab” thefts in stores or in vehicles involving personal items near a window or glass display case. To thwart such attacks needs creativity and cunning.
From Ancient Egypt the idea of Practical Lures has its origins. Pyramid Security involved “Sand traps” where a pillar held up a hole in the ceiling where sand would pour out of once the Practical Lure (the Bait) would be stationed, usually as a gold-clad wooden statue. Or a false floor covering a well shaft with treasures placed on top; the well shaft had crocodiles or scorpions in it. The Supernatural was sometimes employed as a malicious Ka Spirit awakening to cast unholy vengeance on those who would desecrate its home, chase people away, causes instant flash floods and wind, or cause illness or death to intruders and thieves.
Today the car with the wallet containing color photocopied $100 Dollar Bills hides a mouse trap, or IED (Improvised Explosive Device). Or the glass window leading to it has an IED rigged to detonate on its breaking open should one be that rash. Or fake Amazon Delivery Boxes filled with Manure in plastic bags placed on a doorstep with a camera rigged in the ceiling above to photograph its theft. Or cars with bullet-proof glass windows and electrical hood ornaments that emit electric shocks when contacted. Or envelopes filled with powder that is only visible in dark light (to see one’s fingerprints) and placed in a mail box, with postage that is sent back to you (with fake money or fake checks as bait). Powder can also be sifted onto the car controls or steering wheel to identify the thief. Fake Rolex Watches as detonators to other devices placed nearby. Or a firework that is activated by pulling a string (as with opening a package, wallet, backpack, purse, mail box, or other item); one can also place “Snap Caps” inside a container as bait so they will drop and make lots of noise. Use a vicious dog barking on an audio tape inside one’s home activated by trip wire, or camera doorbell. The same idea can work with audio recordings of Police Sirens, and a silent alarm to signal real Police attached to a trip wire in a car, home, or boat. Robot Security that fires electrical shocks, or drones that record a robbery in real time (with added arsenals). Such Practical Lures may be employed by Law Enforcement should the average person shy from such bravery and cunning.
